Role

The role of a mechanic working at project sites in all types of weather conditions, is to maintain and repair heavy equipment, including drilling rigs, cranes, pumps, special drilling augers, core barrels, bucket augers, heavy rock chisels and other machinery normally used for foundation drilling.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Comply with Company rules and regulations regarding safety, drinking/drug use and environmental requirements.
  • Knowledge of diesel, gasoline and electric powered heavy equipment used for installation of drilled shafts
  • Knowledge of electrical and hydraulic units that drive the drilling tools
  • Familiar with all aspects of safety protocol and equipment required to perform the work; including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing duties on site or in the shop, if available
  • Demonstrate safe driving while working on site with a mechanics vehicle
  • Keep accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed on each piece of equipment and advise Project
  • Superintendent of the spare parts inventory and the need to replenish them
  • Instruct subordinates, if any, on the tasks at hand and provide technical documentation for their use and for reference.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience or certifications working on one of the following: Cat, Duetz, Volvo, or Cummins diesel engines.
  • Experience working with crawler cranes and concrete pumps.
  • Electrical experience working with fuse panels, wiring harnesses , and engine computers.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The position requires a minimum of five (5) years on the job training on projects with drilling and other equipment required to install drilled shafts. A lesser period may be appropriate if the applicant has attended vocational/training programs and/or vocational technical schools, focusing on the equipment described above. As well, the applicant should indicate if specialized training programs were attended as new equipment comes into the market.
